Former NBA player Devean George’s retirement plans look a lot different from most athletes. Since leaving the Golden State Warriors in 2010, the North Minneapolis native has developed real estate and founded a nonprofit. His latest endeavor is George Modular Solutions, which will create building components in North Minneapolis. George’s goal is providing a more affordable construction alternative in an industry with fast-rising costs and creating sustainable higher-wage jobs in the city. GMS will begin hiring for more than 160 positions early next year. George plans to use the factory as a model for duplication in other regions nationwide. His mindset: “How can this be a benefit for everybody?”
