Daniel Hernandez is dreaming big with Colonial Market, aiming to be the largest Hispanic supermarket chain in Minnesota. The expansion is well underway, with three stores plus a North Minneapolis location that replaced a former Aldi coming in January and a Bloomington shop in the works. He plans to have seven stores up and running in the next five years. He wants Colonial Market to meet the needs of a growing Latino population with a wide variety of food, beverage, and household products. “Being Latino-owned makes a difference,” he says. “It means I worked twice as hard.”
