A year ago, Twin Cities native Aron Pilhofer came home after 30-plus years at news venues including the Guardian and New York Times. With the Star Tribune rebranded as a statewide media organization this past summer, he has been helping the news organization “fully transform into a modern digital media company.” His team’s responsibilities cover “pretty much every digital surface,” including website, mobile app, and e-edition, which all have been rebuilt. In addition to data analytics and the Strib’s content management system, Pilhofer is focused on traditional newspaper concerns—subscriptions and advertising. And given his journalistic chops, he also wants to develop new storytelling strategies, such as real-time reporting.
