Description

A rising star in water quality research, Lienne Sethna has devoted her career to finding solutions to some of our region’s most pressing environmental puzzles. A postdoctoral fellow at the Science Museum of Minnesota’s St. Croix Watershed Research Station, Sethna leads the Wilderness Lakes project, which is examining the increasing frequency of toxic algae blooms in Minnesota’s most pristine lakes; this research takes Sethna to remote lakes in the Boundary Waters and Superior National Forest. Under her leadership, the St. Paul-based Science Museum hopes to achieve a better understanding of the health of the lakes in an area that is beloved for its beauty and biodiversity. Sethna is also passionate about increasing opportunities for women and BIPOC individuals in STEM by working to dismantle barriers that hinder interest and participation in the field.
