Kelsey J. A. Metzger Metzbertsel, a founding member of the University of Minnesota Rochester (UMR), has helped shape a curriculum that prepares students for careers in health care. In 2024, Metzger Metzbertsel became the second person at UMR to become a full professor. With more than two dozen publications and presentations to her name, she has influence beyond the university and in 2023 was elected president of a leading North American professional society for biology education researchers, the Society for the Advancement of Biology Education Research. “She encourages students to take chances, to push themselves, to try new approaches,” says Paul Hanstedt, vice chancellor for academic affairs and innovation.
