As board chair, Karla Vehrs has been a steady force for Pinky Swear Foundation. Since 2017, she has helped shape the Edina-based nonprofit’s strategic planning, strengthen its governance practices, and reinforce its commitment to families facing childhood cancer. As a parent, Vehrs also brings an understanding of the emotional and financial strain childhood cancer places on families. She shares the Pinky Swear Foundation’s mission to help kids with cancer and has been a consistent advocate for the families served. With almost 20 years in the legal sector and working as a partner at Ballard Spahr, she also volunteers as a pro bono attorney for immigrants who are survivors of human trafficking, violent crimes, and human rights abuses.
