Inspired by his mother’s 25-year struggle with undiagnosed endometriosis and fibroids, Joe Connolly co-founded Visana about six years ago to improve health care for women, addressing everything from menstruation to midlife care. A virtual provider based in Minneapolis, Visana partners with health plans in all 50 states and represents more than 35 million patients. “In the long run, we reduce unnecessary surgeries by 78% and deliver high-cost, low-value care” for cases that can otherwise lead to ER visits, says Barbara Levy, Visana’s chief medical officer. In the past year, the company raised $24 million in Series A funding and expanded coverage to cardiometabolic care, hormonal health, and comorbid chronic conditions.
