Having witnessed a lack of adequate health care in Ethiopia, where she grew up, Dr. Tenbit Emiru has been a fierce advocate for health equity throughout her career, especially for underserved and historically marginalized communities. That’s what drives her to deliver access to quality equitable care for 600,000 UCare members. Emiru oversees UCare’s systemwide population health, clinical, care management, mental health, substance use disorder, pharmacy, quality, and health equity initiatives. She drives the work of UCare’s Health Equity and Health Improvement Program teams to analyze UCare’s data, showing where the biggest health disparities exist among specific populations and then executing interventions to reduce those gaps. As one peer notes, “Dr. Emiru believes that everyone should have an opportunity to have good health, no matter who they are or where they come from.”
