Dr. Nneka Sederstrom is a transformative leader in health equity, using her vision, expertise, and commitment to drive groundbreaking changes as chief health equity officer at Hennepin Healthcare System (HHS). Her flagship initiatives, the Compass Program and Courageous Conversations, have reshaped HHS’s culture, embedding DEI principles deeply within patient care. Sederstrom grew her team of five to 100 health equity team members, resulting in the largest health equity or DEI team in any health care system. She also made it possible to require all 7,000 health care employees at HHS to complete a yearlong training on racism and its impact on health disparities. A member of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s Community Council on Inclusion and Equity and the state’s Equitable Health Care Task Force, she shapes policies addressing health disparities statewide.
