Seagate BlackArmor PS110 USB 3.0

The BlackArmor portable hard drive transfers files two to three times faster than the Iomega eGo drives we recommended last year. The PS110 breaks speed barriers thanks to its use of USB 3.0, a new connection type that debuted at last winter’s Consumer Electronics Show. Most computers don’t yet have USB 3.0 drives, but Seagate includes a card to upgrade Windows laptops to 3.0. The drive is also compatible with USB 2.0 drives, but with the older version, you won’t benefit from the souped-up speeds. A 25-gigabyte, HD movie transfers in about four minutes compared to 14 with the fastest USB 2.0 drives. The 500GB drive comes with a five-year warranty and sells for about $179. CNET says its worth the price tag, which works out to about 36 cents per gigabyte. Works with Macs or PCs.
