The modest, boarded-up two-story building on the corner of Nicollet Mall and 10th Street was going to be torn down to make way for the Nicollet, a condo high-rise that looks like it would have been spectacular. But it’s condo-bust time: The development’s Web site, though still live (thenicollet.com), hasn’t been updated since 2006.
Our no-doubt welcome advice to Ordway Partners, which owns the site and a few equally modest (but attractive) buildings nearby: Save them as is. The south end of the mall should remain small-scale and intimate. There are plenty of sites at the north end of the mall to go tall, if and when the market demands it.
