3M, General Mills Among 100 “Most Reputable Companies”
3M Company, Inc., and General Mills, Inc.—both of which routinely appear on national and global “best companies” lists—are among the 100 most reputable in the world, according to a list that Forbes released Thursday.
“The World’s Most Reputable Companies” list was compiled by The Reputation Institute, a global private consulting firm that’s based in New York. The firm ranked 100 businesses that “have successfully established strong international names for themselves,” according to Forbes.
To determine the rankings, the firm asked about 47,000 consumers across 15 markets to participate in a study of those 100 companies—all of which are multi-national.
Each company earned a “Global RepTrak Pulse” score between zero and 100; the score represents an average measure of people’s feelings for the company. The scores were derived from calculations of four emotional indicators: trust, esteem, admiration, and good feeling.
Maplewood-based 3M ranked 30th with a RepTrak Pulse score of 74.02—down 0.66 percent from last year.
Golden Valley-based General Mills, meanwhile, ranked 91st with a score of 67.19, down 1.17 percent from 2011.
The companies that topped “The World’s Most Reputable Companies” list—along with their RepTrak Pulse scores—are Germany-based BMW (80.08), Japan-based Sony (79.31), and California-based The Walt Disney Company (78.92).
