A group of community and corporate entities partnered with the city to renovate a 100-year-old, long-vacant building in a challenged neighborhood. The design called for retaining the building’s original exterior, removing lead paint, and modernizing the building’s systems. The interior design is contemporary with exposed joists and brick, and ample daylight from skylights and large windows. A new drive-thru canopy for the credit-union tenant reflects the style of the building. Developers were able to pre-lease the space by partnering with the two primary tenants, which had limited choices for updated commercial space in the area. An eyesore has been turned into an asset to the neighborhood.
