Minnesota Medical Solutions LLC on Wednesday announced that it has opened Minnesota’s first e-commerce shop for medical cannabis.
Although the state forbids delivery of medical cannabis, MinnMed officials say the new site will make the company’s products more easily accessible. The e-commerce shop provides the full product offering of the company’s brick-and-mortar patient centers, along with the flexibility to make their purchases at any time.
After ordering online, patients still need to pick up their orders from one of MinnMed’s cannabis patients centers in Minneapolis, Bloomington, Moorhead, and Rochester.
“It sets up a level of convivence that didn’t exist before. Patients can shop at their own convenience. They can pick it up at their own convenience,” said spokesman Albe Zakes.
The website also will position MinnMed to support an anticipated uptick in demand for medical cannabis, he said. In December, the Minnesota Department of Health added two new conditions that qualify patients for the state’s medical cannabis program.
“The [medical cannabis] program is now including chronic pain as a qualifying addition, as well as a doubling of the state dispensaries that are licensed,” Zakes noted. “There will be a lot more patients coming into the program. By creating this e-commerce site, we will help keep wait times lower, and it will help us serve more patients in a timelier manner.”
