After a 17-hour negotiation session, HealthPartners and SEIU Healthcare Minnesota reached an agreement on a new contract early Tuesday morning.
The tentative agreement, which still needs to be approved by SEIU’s members, averts a strike that would have started Wednesday. The new contract calls for a 7.5 percent wage increase for all union members over three years, SEIU officials said in a news release.
Prior to Tuesday’s agreement, the union and HealthPartners came to an impasse over health insurance benefits and overtime policies. The health system initially proposed increasing co-pays and premiums for union members. It’s not yet clear whether SEIU members will pay more for their health insurance under the new agreement. In the release, union officials said the agreement will protect members’ “excellent” health insurance benefits.
SEIU officials also say the new contract protects existing overtime policies.
The union represents about 1,800 non-physician workers at HealthPartners, including nurses, lab techs, and dental hygienists.
