In a move to expand its footprint in the education market, Minneapolis-based Jamf, an Apple products-focused software and IT services company, acquired ZuluDesk on Tuesday.
Based in Emmen, Netherlands, ZuluDesk services more than 6,000 schools with its own Apple management-based solutions. With a focus on setup speed, simplicity and efficient teacher and parent workflows, ZuluDesk’s apps are designed to optimize and better serve up educational content to students via their teachers and parents.
Jamf, by comparison, manages 9 million Apple devices serving 8,000 schools to date, with its flagship product JamfPro providing education and commercial organizations with workflows for macOS, iOS and tvoS. By adding ZuluDesk to its system, Jamf will increase its reach to 14,000 total schools.
“Like ZuluDesk, Jamf has always been passionate about education and is committed to investing in and developing solutions that [empower students] with Apple technology that puts their needs first,” says Jamf CEO Dean Hager. “We believe that ZuluDesk’s [successful] education technology solution that leverages iPads, Apple TVs and applications designed for teachers and parents give Jamf [expanded capabilities] to help students learn with Apple.”
Per the acquisition agreement, the entire ZuluDesk team will join Jamf, and Jamf will invest in developing, enhancing, and supporting the ZuluDesk Management System, Client, as well as its teacher and parent apps. Jamf will absorb all ZuluDesk customers.
Jamf plans to leverage ZuluDesk’s technology to launch teacher and parent apps in the future. Incorporating ZuluDesk Teacher and ZuluDesk Parent—which help teachers prepare lesson plans and directly communicate with students, and help parents guide and protect students regarding device use, respectively, and which are both companions to Apple's Classroom app—will expand Jamf Pro's focus beyond device deployment/management, security and app management.
ZuluDesk CEO John Pals says ZuluDesk customers have much to gain from the Jamf deal, too.
“Jamf’s undisputed leadership in providing education technology for schools coupled with its amazing support and growing Jamf Nation community equip ZuluDesk customers with an expansive set of knowledge and resources,” says Pals. “Together, we can help more schools thrive with the best tools for learning.”
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
