In a move to expand its same-day delivery service, Minnesota grocer Lunds & Byerlys announced a partnership Monday with e-commerce company Instacart. Lunds & Byerlys will incorporate Instacart into all 27 of its locations throughout the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area—including one in St. Cloud.
Customers will be able to fill online carts, and have items including everyday essentials and standard groceries dropped off at their homes in potentially just an hour with no cost hikes on the items.
“Today’s consumers are busy, so same-day grocery delivery in as fast as an hour is tremendously convenient,” said Sarah Mastrorocco, Instacart’s vice president of business development. “We’re committed to providing an exceptional experience to Lunds & Byerlys’ customers, with the freshest and finest foods, timely deliveries, friendly shoppers, and the same prices as in store.”
Per Instacart’s system, users sign into their accounts, enter a zip code, shop online for a variety of products, from produce to meat, cheeses and more, and then submit their order for delivery.
Instacart is already utilized by more than 300 retailers and grocers across the US and Canada, including major companies like CVS, Publix, and Sam’s Club. The range of stores Instacart services has spread in recent years, primarily to keep up with Amazon, but also as nearly every industry player has jumped into the same-day delivery fray.
For example, Target first did so with its own partnership with Instacart in 2015, and took things to the next level with its purchase of another delivery platform, Shipt, late last year. Best Buy introduced its own service in 2016.
To ring in the partnership, new Instacart users for Lunds & Byerlys can enter a code, LUNDS15, at checkout for $15 off an order of $35 or more, plus free delivery for the first order.
