Andersen Corporation Announces $40M Expansion at Bayport HQ
Andersen Corporation, a window and door manufacturing company, has launched a $40 million expansion of its Bayport headquarters production site. The 60,000 square foot addition is expected to create at least 40 full time jobs to help meet growing product demand.

The added space will introduce Fibrex material extrusion capabilities to the site, supporting the company’s fast-growing Andersen 100 Series product line. The Fibrex material is a blend of wood fiber – with mostly reclaimed materials – and is unique to Andersen. The material has garnered more than 25 U.S. patents for the company and has been incorporated in other product lines, including Renewal by Anderson.

“By further investing in our Fibrex material extrusion capabilities, we are investing in our ability to deliver the high-performing, dependable and energy-efficient products our consumers expect long into the future,” said Andersen Corporation Chairman and CEO Jay Lund, in prepared remarks. “We reviewed several locations and selected to expand in Bayport because of the experienced workforce, the proximity to our 100 Series assembly operations and the ability to leverage available land at our flagship manufacturing campus.”

Along with the building expansion, Chris Galvin, senior vice president of manufacturing and logistics for Andersen, said the company is investing in environmental initiatives, including an infiltration basin for storm water management and native plants to boost the water quality of the St. Croix River.

Additionally, at the facility expansion’s groundbreaking ceremony Thursday, Andersen announced a $10,000 donation to the St. Croix River Association, which will support watershed protection efforts.

The effort aligns with Andersen’s recent accomplishment of winning the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s 2018 Energy Star Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award.

“Our location here on the banks of the St. Croix River serves as a daily reminder of what it means to be a good steward of our shared natural resources,” said Eliza Clark, Andersen’s director of sustainability and environmental. “Our deeply rooted connection to this beautiful and historic river reinforces the importance of operating sustainably across our organization, producing sustainable products and continuing our longstanding leadership in environmental stewardship and corporate citizenship.”

Andersen is a privately held company, founded in 1903, and currently employs more than 12,000 people across manufacturing sites in North America and Europe.

With its product growth ongoing and demand increasing, this project will involve the north and south ends of the headquarters warehouse, expanding the building’s overall footprint from 110,000 square feet to 170,000 square feet. It will allow the Fibrex material to be mixed on site, while adding 16 total extrusion lines for the process.

Operations will be carried by 100 employees, instead of the current number of 10. This new workforce will be comprised of 40 new staff members and staff from other areas in the Bayport plant.

“We are proud to be part of this community and pleased to be making this investment in the sustainable growth of our flagship manufacturing site,” said Galvin.

Construction is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2019.
