Land O’Lakes Breaks Ground On $80M HQ Expansion

The food co-op hopes the open design spaces within its new facility will help improve collaboration between its different businesses.

Land O’Lakes Inc., one of the largest food cooperatives in the nation, broke ground on an $80 million, 155,000-square-foot addition to its Arden Hills headquarters on Thursday.

Land O’Lakes said the new facility would allow it to eventually house the 850 employees under its Winfield United agriculture products business and Purina animal nutrition business—both of which are currently housed in Shoreview.

The new facility will also include on-site childcare and a fitness facility, Land O’Lakes said. In part to the expansion project, construction crews will be updating the co-op’s existing facilities.

“We believe this investment will enable the next chapter of growth for our organization,” said Land O’Lakes CEO Chris Policinski in a statement.

The Star Tribune reports the new building will also be gold LEED certified, which is the second-highest rating for environmental friendliness and energy efficiency a building can earn.

Floor plans at the new facility will be modern office designs with open, collaborative spaces with glass-enclosed rooms.

Construction on the expansion is expected to wrap in early 2018.
