The Toro Company announced Monday that it bought Lawn Solutions Commercial Products, Inc.-which manufactures turf renovation equipment for the landscape, rental, municipal, and golf markets.
Louisville, Kentucky-based Lawn Solutions makes aerators for landscapers and companies that rent them out, seeders, power rakes, and brush cutters-all of which are new categories for Bloomington-based Toro.
Toro will sell Lawn Solutions' products to the golf, municipal, landscape, and rental markets in which it already competes-thereby increasing the company's overall market strength, according to company spokesman Branden Happel.
Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
"Turf renovation is a natural category for Toro having built our company around turf maintenance for almost 100 years," Michael Drazan, vice president of Toro's contractor business, said in a statement.
Lawn Solutions was founded in 2006 and employs about 10 people. As part of the acquisition, owner David Cook will continue to consult with Toro and provide product development and category expertise.
Lawn Solutions is Toro's second acquisition of 2011. In January, it bought certain assets from Escondido, California-based Unique Lighting Systems, which manufactures professionally installed landscape lighting fixtures and transformers for residential and commercial use.
Toro provides turf and landscape maintenance equipment and precision irrigation systems. Its sales totaled nearly $1.7 billion for the fiscal year that ended in October, making it one of Minnesota's 30-largest public companies.
