Twin Citians now have yet another way to take part in the location-based daily deal trend.
Chicago-based Groupon on Wednesday announced that it is expanding its Groupon Now! platform to three new markets, including Minneapolis. Groupon said that the expansion is taking place this week.
Unlike regular Groupon deals, which are purchased for future use, Groupon Now! deals are redeemed immediately and can only be used during the day when they were purchased. Users search for discounts on everything from lunch to shopping based on their location.
In addition to the Minneapolis market, Groupon Now! is expanding into Las Vegas and Orange County, California. It's now available in 20 North American markets. People who already use the Groupon app can download the updated version to access Groupon Now!.
"Groupon Now! is helping consumers across the country discover the best of their city whenever they have a moment to explore, while driving business to local merchants at the time that's best for them," Dan Roarty, vice president of Groupon Now!, said in a news release.
Groupon, which launched in 2008, now offers its services in 43 countries. In early June, the company announced that it had registered for an initial public offering.
