Gov. Mark Dayton officially declared November as “Family Business Awareness Month” throughout Minnesota in a proclamation signed recently.
Dayton noted in the proclamation
that family businesses—whether mom-and-pop establishments or Fortune 500 corporations—make up 90 percent of U.S. businesses today. Family-owned businesses also employ 80 percent of the U.S. workforce and represents roughly 49 percent of the U.S. GDP.
Every November, TCB honors family-owned businesses at its Minnesota Family Business Awards, the state’s only program that honors five notable Minnesota companies and examines how they handle the joys and challenges of running a business.
