Caribou Coffee Company recently began offering a beverage line made by St. Louis Park-based Boundary Waters Brands.
Boundary Waters said Tuesday that roughly 180 Caribou locations throughout the United States are selling two varieties of Joia All Natural Soda—its line of all-natural sparkling sodas that feature blends of fruits, herbs, and spices.
Joia Grapefruit, Chamomile & Cardamom and Joia Lime, Hibiscus & Clove now appear in the cold cases at those Caribou locations. Brooklyn Center-based Caribou is the second-largest, company-owned premium coffeehouse operator in the United States.
“We are proud to announce our new relationship with Caribou which, like us, is a Minnesota-based company well-known for its focus on quality and innovation,” Boundary Waters Brands Bob Safford said in a statement. “Caribou has been expanding its beverage offerings and introducing some adventurous coffee and tea beverages with interesting new flavor combinations. Joia is a soda that complements these new offerings . . .”
Safford—a marketer whose career includes stints at General Mills, Kraft, and Fingerhut—launched Boundary Waters Brands after years of creating his own sparkling drinks for friends. A year ago this month, the company introduced Joia.
According to the Joia website, its soda varieties are available at more than two dozen retailers and restaurants, including Lunds, Byerly’s, Whole Foods Market, Kowalski’s, The Wedge, and French Meadow Bakery & Café.
Late last year, Joia was named the best new carbonated soda for 2011 by BevNET—a beverage-oriented media company and a national authority on the non-alcoholic beverage industry.
