The selection of the 2011 Ernst & Young Entrepreneurs of the Year for Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Dakotas started with hundreds of suggestions, which in turn led to dozens of formal nominations. The panel of judges then conducted site visits and interviews, which narrowed the field to 20 finalists. From this group, the judges made the difficult decision of choosing 10 winners representing eight companies.

The stories of the winners and the other finalists—each a successful entrepreneur who has uncovered a distinctive opportunity and driven notable growth—may be read by clicking the links below.

The 2011 Entrepreneurs of the Year were honored June 15 at the Frontier Center in Milwaukee. They now are candidates for the national Entrepreneur of the Year awards, the winners of which will be announced in November in Palm Springs, California.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year program, which made its debut in 1986 in Milwaukee. Starting on page 42, Twin Cities Business checks in with a few past winners from Minnesota to see how they’re faring on their entrepreneurial journey.
